Todo ello dentro de un proyecto global que consiste en examinar la situación de la Vida consagrada en cada uno de los Continentes. "Siento que el momento actual nos pide ser expertos en humanidad, ser capaces de hacer sentir a cada uno/a el valor de su propia vida, y para ello, escuchar, acoger y ser ayudado a narrar su propia historia vital. Dicho de otra forma: Un gran reto de nuestras sociedades es humanizar: es la urgencia de recuperar la persona y ponerla en el centro del ser y el quehacer profesional, social, político, religioso…

La vita consecrata puede ser vital para esto. Por sus posibilidades de formación y por su dedicación exclusiva a la misión, los consagrados/as pueden ser unos “maravillosos compañeros de camino” de la vida de muchos/as, viviendo desde las claves de la acogida, la escucha, la ternura, la confianza y la fe en el otro, acercándonos a la persona en la situación en la que se encuentra y no donde nos gustaría que estuviera.

Percibo que hay muchos consagrados que son así, pero percibo también que en algunos momentos se han contagiado del individualismo latente en nuestras sociedades, y algunos han perdido contacto con la realidad, su capacidad de estar con otros y de situarse junto a ellos. No hacen comunidad ni con los suyos ni con los demás. Y no es cuestión de edad. Es cuestión de arriesgarse a ser para otros, es decir, hacerse más vulnerables permitiéndose compartir lo que somos con otros."

L’Union des Supérieurs généraux vient de tenir son Assemblée semestrielle sur le thème de la Vie consacrée en Europe. Cela entre dans un projet global qui consiste à examiner la situation de la Vie consacrée dans chacun des Continents. « J’ai l’impression que le moment actuel demande que nous soyons des experts en humanité, capables de faire sentir à chacun la valeur de sa vie, en l’écoutant, en l’accueillant et en l’aidant à raconter l’histoire de sa vie. Autrement dit, le grand défi qui se présente dans nos sociétés est celui d’humaniser : il est urgent de réhabiliter la personne, en la mettant au centre de l’être et de l’agir professionnel, social, politique, religieux…

De ce point de vue, la Vie consacrée peut jouer un rôle essentiel. En raison de leurs possibilités de formation et de leur don de soi exclusif à la mission, les consacrés peuvent être de « merveilleux compagnons de route » dans la vie de beaucoup d’hommes et de femmes, en vivant sous le signe de l’accueil, de l’écoute, de la tendresse, de la confiance et de la foi dans l’autre, et en allant vers les personnes là où elles se trouvent, et non là où nous voudrions qu’elles soient.

Je me rends compte que beaucoup de consacrés sont ainsi, mais je constate aussi qu’ils se laissent parfois gagner par l’individualisme ambiant de nos sociétés, et que certains d’entre eux ont perdu le contact avec la réalité, la capacité d’être avec les autres, à leurs côtés. Ils ne forment plus une communauté ni avec leurs frères, ni avec les autres. Ce n’est pas une question d’âge, c’est une question de prendre le risque d’être pour les autres, autrement dit de se rendre vulnérables en acceptant de partager ce qu’ils sont avec les autres. »

The Union of the Superiors General has just ended their terminal Assembly on the theme of Consecrated Life in Europe. "I feel that this period of time requires us to be experts in humanity, to be capable of making every other person feel the value of his or her own life and for this reason, to listen to, to welcome and to help tell one’s story of life. Il other words, the great challenge for our society is that of humanizing: it is the urgent need to recuperate the person and put him or her at the centre of being and acting professionally, socially, politically, religiously…

Consecrated life may be vital in carrying out this task. By means of their possibilities of formation and their exclusive dedication to the mission, consecrated people may be “marvelous travelling companions” in the lives of many people, living in the perspective of giving a warm reception, attention, affection, trust and faith in others, approaching these people in the concrete situation in which they find themselves and not in the situation that we would prefer they be.

I have the impression that there are many consecrated people like this, but also have the impression that in some moments they have been contaminated by the individualism hidden in our society, and some have lost touch with reality, the ability of staying with others and staying by their side. They do not form a community neither with their brothers nor the others. It has nothing to do with one’s age. It is a matter of taking the risk of being there for others, in other words, rendering oneself more vulnerable, allowing oneself to share that which we are with others."
