At the Session of Superiors General that has just been held in Rome, the prophetic nature of the consecrated life was discussed. Father Saverio Cannistra, Superior General of the Discalced Carmelites, addressed this issue by noting that it was, in reality, to investigate the specific relationship of religious life with the history. And for him, it is the eschatological dimension of the consecrated life that actually assigns to it its prophetic character. He believes that therein is found "its more powerful revival factor ad intra and ad extra." For him, the religious shows, by his way of life, that we are waiting for "He who comes". Thus, "human history is a mystery that expands the real mundane to the possible divine dimensions." It is therefore not a question of moving away from the world but to love it radically: "The eschatological tension that crosses religious life is, on closer look, a radical form of love for the world and history ". He added: "The religious bears in his life a difference that does not and will not be a separation from each other, or assimilation to the other.” It is rather about making the other the load to bear on the shoulders with the love of the good Samaritan or of the good shepherd. If we eliminated the difference or the relationship, it is the vital nucleus of consecrated life, its prophetic force that we would eliminate. To keep them, the one as the other, difference without opposition and relationship without assimilation, means accepting the hardest and most radical thing, that is to say, the passivity, this 'suffering' of Christian love." I leave you these lines to meditate ...
