No
importante!
Father de
Cloriviere clarifies that meditation must "be practical," that is, it
must give new strength to follow Christ and to love as He does. Whether our
meditation is easy or difficult, this is not the important thing. What matters
is that it bears good fruit in the day after. Otherwise, it may have been a
time to sleep, or a time to reflect and pray. But the question to be asked at
the end of this time of meditation is this: What is the grace that God gives me
this morning? How will I love him better today? It is then that this time will
give me new strengths, a new dynamism. This time of dialogue with God must help
me to know myself better, to know better what I must change in myself, to
acquire those virtues of which Father de la Mennais spoke so often. It must
lead me, especially at the beginning, to decide on specific efforts. Later,
perhaps, it will be more a matter of a greater attention to the presence of God
in the heart of my days and a peaceful but constant fidelity to answer him. One
must never forget that prayer invites us to love. And what to love is
concrete.
