LUNDI SAINT

VC 24 Celui qui paraît aux yeux des hommes dans sa mort, défiguré et sans beauté, au point d'amener les spectateurs à se voiler le visage (cf. Is 53,2-3), manifeste pleinement sur la Croix la beauté et la puissance de l'amour de Dieu. Saint Augustin le célèbre ainsi: « Il est beau, le Verbe auprès de Dieu [...]. Il est beau dans le ciel, beau sur la terre [...]; beau dans ses miracles, beau dans le supplice; beau quand il appelle à la vie et beau quand il ne s'inquiète pas de la mort [...]; beau sur la Croix, beau dans le tombeau, beau dans le ciel [...]. Que la faiblesse de la chair ne détourne pas vos yeux de la splendeur de sa beauté! ».La vie consacrée reflète cette splendeur de l'amour, parce qu'elle fait profession, par sa fidélité au mystère du Calvaire, de croire à l'amour du Père, du Fils et de l'Esprit Saint et d'en vivre.

VC 24             Aquel que en su muerte aparece ante los ojos humanos desfigurado y sin belleza hasta el punto de mover a los presentes a cubrirse el rostro (cf. Is 53, 2-3), precisamente en la Cruz manifiesta en plenitud la belleza y el poder del amor de Dios. San Agustín lo canta así: « Hermoso siendo Dios, Verbo en Dios [...] Es hermoso en el cielo y es hermoso en la tierra; hermoso en el seno, hermoso en los brazos de sus padres, hermoso en los milagros, hermoso en los azotes; hermoso invitado a la vida, hermoso no preocupándose de la muerte, hermoso dando la vida, hermoso tomándola; hermoso en la cruz, hermoso en el sepulcro y hermoso en el cielo. Oíd entendiendo el cántico, y la flaqueza de su carne no aparte de vuestros ojos el esplendor de su hermosura ».a vida consagrada refleja este esplendor del amor, porque confiesa, con su fidelidad al misterio de la Cruz, creer y vivir del amor del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. 


VC 24 It is precisely on the Cross that the One who in death appears to human eyes as disfigured and without beauty, so much so that the bystanders cover their faces (cf. Is 53:2-3), fully reveals the beauty and power of God's love. Saint Augustine says: "Beautiful is God, the Word with God ... He is beautiful in heaven, beautiful on earth; beautiful in the womb, beautiful in his parents' arms, beautiful in his miracles, beautiful in his sufferings; beautiful in inviting to life, beautiful in not worrying about death, beautiful in giving up his life and beautiful in taking it up again; he is beautiful on the Cross, beautiful in the tomb, beautiful in heaven. Listen to the song with understanding, and let not the weakness of the flesh distract your eyes from the splendour of his beauty."The consecrated life reflects the splendour of this love because, by its fidelity to the mystery of the Cross, it confesses that it believes and lives by the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
